James Steinberg, dean of the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs, and professor of Social Science, International Affairs, and Law and Syracuse University, will be discussing his new book, Strategic Reassurance and Resolve: U.S.-China Relations in the Twenty-First Century, at The Chicago Club on June 17, 2014.
Dean Steinberg served as the 16th deputy secretary of State from 2009-2011. From 1994-1996 Steinberg also served as U.S. state department director of Policy Planning, and then deputy national security advisor to President William Jefferson Clinton from 1996-2001.
This talk will center on U.S.-China relations and the implications of growing competition between the two nations in an international context. An engaging speaker, Steinberg will both discuss and lead a discussion on U.S. foreign policy and the ever-changing role the U.S. plays on the global stage.
