Congratulations to Grigore Pop-Eleches, whose new book was awarded the Best Book Award from the European Politics Section of the American Political Science Association (APSA)!
From Economic Crisis to Reform: IMF Programs in Latin America and Eastern Europe relies upon comparative evidence from the initiation and implementation of International Monetary Fund (IMF) programs in Latin America and Eastern Europe to prove that economic crises do not necessarily persuade governments to adopt IMF-style economic policies. Instead, Pop-Eleches shows that ideology and institutions, at both the international and domestic levels, determine responses to such crises.
Pop-Eleches’ book has been praised as a rich, carefully-researched work in reviews, and was, in the APSA’s opinion, the best book published on European Politics and Society.
